Choosing a bed: secrets of the assessment of the frame from experts in the furniture industry
Size, shape, material – all this is important when choosing any furniture. But the bed frame is the main factor that must be considered when considering the different types of this element of the headset. The text below is dedicated to this issue. We select the material.
What is this component of furniture made of?
Here are the main options along with their pros and cons:
1. Metal – hypoallergenic, reliable, durable, environmentally friendly, easy to maintain, but the design is often inconspicuous.
2. Wood – durable, resistant to scratches and chips, can withstand several disassembly assemblies. But it is bulky, expensive and can dry out under the influence of sunlight.
3. Particleboard or MDF – available, perfect pattern, resistant to moisture and temperature extremes. Disadvantages: not very high strength, emit harmful formaldehydes.
Thus, the choice of material is based on the budgetary framework and requirements for it. But besides this criterion, several more factors should be taken into account.
You can buy beds with this type of base:
• with lamellas;
Lamels (they are armor) are planks that are attached to furniture along its perimeter. Among their advantages: lightness, elasticity, orthopedic effect, ventilation for the mattress (increases its durability).
Plates are narrow (3-4 cm) and wide (7-9 cm). The former are springy, the latter withstand higher loads. On some models, it is possible to control the stiffness of the lamellas. The smaller the distance between the slats, the more useful it is for the back (the minimum possible figure is 2.5 cm). One-piece frames are usually installed on beds with a built-in laundry box.
Advantages: the ability to store things, ease of opening and closing. Disadvantage: the bed is not aired (especially if it is in the corner of the room). Tips for choosing a frame Before buying, read the description or check with the manager the maximum load that this product can withstand. Then consider the weight of the mattress, bedding and your own weight. You may need to take into account the kilograms of children and animals running in the morning. The height of the bed is also important. If elderly people or those who have problems with their legs or back will sleep on it, do not choose low products. Then getting up and going to bed will be hard.
Buyers predisposed to colds and allergies are better off giving furniture with a blank solid box: then it will not be possible to clean it regularly in this part of the room. In order for the bed to serve you for a long time, you need to choose a suitable mattress for it. The last perimeter should be 1 cm less than the frame on each side. In extreme cases, these values should coincide, but excesses should not be allowed.
Also pay attention to the distance between the lamellas (if not an integral option is selected). This indicator should not exceed the diameter of the springs. It is often advisable to start choosing a mattress, and then furniture for it.
An ideal case when a person who wants to buy a new bed, turns to an orthopedic doctor. The doctor will evaluate weight and height, sleep position, lifestyle, back condition and then give his recommendations. Think that this purchase is long-term and you will use it for at least 10 years. Which is better: spend an hour or two of your time and a small amount for a consultation, or choose something inappropriate and risk your health and quality of sleep? You decide.
